A life of love and service ended peacefully after a short illness June 8, 2014, with the passing of Mrs. Rose Lee Sherman Lyles.

In her 94 years, Mrs. Rose was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was steadfast in her faith and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mansfield for over 50 years. She loved art, and was an accomplished painter. She also loved music and practiced dancercise daily until the age of 93.

Raised in rural Brouillette Community near Marksville in a large French and Irish Catholic family, Mrs. Rose moved to Shreveport at the outbreak of World War II to study nursing at Charity Hospital. There she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse, met and married Wilmar M. "Bill" Lyles, her husband of 63 years. Mr. Bill, a prominent local cattleman and businessman, passed before her in 2003.

A petite redhead in her white uniform and starched cap, Mrs. Rose brought comfort and kindness to her patients and their families on private duty at DeSoto Regional Hospital and DeSoto Retirement Center. She finally retired from nursing in 2013 at the age of 92.

Mrs. Rose is survived by their five children: Gloria Gene Chawla, Marilyn Combs, William "Billy" Lyles and wife Peggy, Dorothy Mellon and husband Mike and Wardell Lyles and wife Kathy, one sister; Lula Laborde, thirteen grandchildren: Tony Adams, April Adams Romano, Tatum Lyles, Daniel Lyles, Andrew Chawla, Julie Chawla Kazer, Sean Mellon, Katherine Mellon, Trevor Combs, Megan Lyles, Robin Lyles, Laura Lyles, and Todd King, eight great-grandchildren along with numerous extended family members and many wonderful friends.

Honoring Mrs. Rose as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tony Adams, Daniel Lyles and Sean Mellon; Kevin Brough, Chas Baker and Eddie Melvin.
