CLINTON - A funeral service for Winifred "Wendy" Bartley will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Bartley, 66, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Wendy was born in Nashville, Tenn. on July 11, 1942 to the late David and LaBelle Sherer. She has been a resident of Clinton since 1955. She was of the Methodist faith. During the Vietnam era, Wendy proudly served our country as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force where she held the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She loved cooking and crocheting and enjoyed working in her yard and taking care of all of her flower gardens. But more than any of those, Wendy had a caring spirit and always put others before herself. Her love and generosity showed through whenever she was in a room but none so much as when she spent many years caring for her mother prior to her death. She was a doting grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren and a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. Survivors, by whom she will be greatly missed, include her children Chris Culig of Boise, Idaho, David Bartley of Flowood, and Chad Bartley and his wife, Emily, of Brandon; brothers David Sherer and his wife, Estelle, of Clinton, and Stephen Sherer and his wife, Phyllis, of Raymond; sister LaBelle Copeland and her husband, Gerry, of Meridian; seven grandchildren Tanner, Maddy, Kendal, Holly, Charlie, Emma and Sally; numerous extended family and her very special friends Kathryn and Tom Riley of Terry. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law Janet Sherer, and her nephew Joey Rhodes. Memorials may be made to The Center for Violence Prevention, PO Box 6279; Pearl, MS 39288-6279. Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm until 4 pm and after 10 am on Monday.
