Les was the son of James Madison Sharp Shepherd and Luella Boyd Shepherd. He was husband of Helene Swartz (who was 13 years his junior), and father of my paternal grandfather (Warren Shepherd).

"FRANK LESLIE SHEPHERD, ...was born 15 July 1895 in Topeka, KS, where all the nine children of James and Luella (Boyd) Shepherd were born. Like his older brother Preston, Frank worked as a freight clerk for the AT & SF Railroad, starting at age seventeen. He continued to work for the Santa Fe until the Shepherd family moved to California in 1916. Frank saw military service during World War I, returning as a Sergeant Major and unscratched, and then like several other [of his brothers and brothers-in-law], he found work in the petroleum industry, where he worked for forty-five years. He was president of Taft Drilling Corp for a number of years.
Frank married in Los Angeles, CA, on 28 June 1926 to Helene Margaret Swartz, who was born 18 May 1908 in Langdon, Cavalier County, North Dakota. He was a member of the Masonic Order. Frank and Helene spent most of their life in Bakersfield where he died 27 November 1973, and Helene died on 16 February 1988 during the time of this compilation."
Les and Helene had three children: son Warren Ronald (born 1927), and daughters Donalda Helene "Donnie" (1931-2006) and Arlayne Elizabeth "Nene" (1935-2010)
