Services for Charles L. Shepard, 95, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's AME Church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Shepard died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 25, 1903, in Hoag, the son of Albert Hayes and Amanda (Harvey) Shepard. He received his undergraduate degree from Kansas University in 1933, and his master's degree in entomology from KU in 1938.
Mr. Shepard had worked at the Armour Packing House and Union Pacific Railroad, both in Kansas City. He then taught at Miles College in Birmingham, Ala., later becoming director of instructors, dean of the college and head of the zoology department. He taught at the
University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff from 1948 to 1957, and then started working at KU. He was a biology technician in the Bacteriology Department, then became instructor for general entomology students. He retired in 1969.
He was a member of the Kansas Academy of Science, Arkansas Academy of Science, Phi Sigma, Beta Kappa Kappa, National Education Assn. and St. Luke's AME Church. He was also a
member and former vice chairman of Friends of the Lawrence Library, and was listed in Who's Who in General Education.
He married May Marshall in 1940, in Little Rock, Ark. She died in 1987.
Survivors include a brother, John, Lawrence; and a sister, Eva May Sexton, Salt Lake
