She was the daughter of Godfrey and Frederika Sheek, natives of Wurttemberg, Germany. They came to Philadelphia about 1820 and had eight American-born children including Mary. On September 26, 1843 she married the lithography artist Augustus Kollner, who was from Wurttemberg and had gotten to know her parents. Mary had seven children over a fifteen year period, but only three survived infancy: Clara, Josephine, and William Godfrey Kollner. Mary died of pneumonia at about age 76 and was buried at Monument Cemetery in Philadelphia in Section B, Lot 585, next to her parents. Her husband died in 1906 and was buried at Monument nearby in Section B, Lot 565, which had also belonged to Mary's parents and may have been adjacent. Monument Cemetery was closed in 1956 and the remains were moved to Lawnview Cemetery. However as the remains were moved lot by lot, Mary and her husband were moved separately and ended up at Lawnview in different sections (Augustus in Broad, she in Susquehanna).
