BENSON, Yolanda - Yolanda (Shea) Benson, 90, of Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, wife of the late John Michael Benson, died Sunday, (November 6, 2005), at her daughter's home in New Seabury, MA. She was born June 30, 1915, in New York City, daughter of the late John and Leonilda (Marceline) Shea, and had lived in Poughquag, NY, prior to moving to Simsbury two and a half years ago. Mrs. Benson was a clerk for New York City Marine and Aviation prior to her retirement. She delighted in her family and excelled in crafts, such as providing each newborn grandchild and great-grandchild with a handmade baby blanket, and teaching several of her granddaughters to crochet. Her artistic soul embraced painting in her later years, and family members who own an original "Yolanda", featuring lush roses or delicate birds, are fortunate indeed. Mrs. Benson was predeceased by only three weeks and two days by her husband of 64 years, John M. Benson. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Motria Benson, of Newport, RI, and St. Augustine, FL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and John McGarry of Simsbury, Barbara and George List of New Seabury, MA, and Donna and John Martie, of Mason, OH; 14 grandchildren, Christine Benson, Theresa Pittman, Michael Benson, Jr., Meghan Howard, Colleen, Erin and Sean McGarry, Timothy List, Elizabeth Edge, Shannon List, Scott List, Christopher, Amanda, and Susanne Martie; and 11 great-grandchildren, Anders and Benon Pittman, Katelyn Howard, Mikaela, Collin, Patrick, and Joanna Edge, Harrison and Bennett Schorr, and Brandon and Cassandra List. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Thursday, November 10, 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral will be Friday, November 11, 9:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, Tariffville. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McLean Hospice, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070.
