Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Shaw Barnish, 87 of Clarksville, died Thursday, October 9, 2008 in Evergreen Assisted Living in Waynesburg.
She was born November 29, 1920 in Crucible, a daughter of
the late William and Goldie Sappington Shaw.
Mrs. Barnish was a homemaker. She resided most of her life in Clarksville where she attended Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years. She was also a member of Jefferson Legion Auxiliary and the Vestaburg Senior Citizens Center. For many years she enjoyed bowling at the Jefferson Bowling Lanes. Mrs. Barnish will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
On June 7, 1938 she married John C. Barnish, who died November 10, 2004.
Surviving are three sons, Jack Barnish and his wife Jeannie of West Jordan UT, Bill Barnish and his wife Anna of Littleton, CO, and James Barnish of Clarksville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Shaw of Willoughby, OH, and Clarence (Bud) Shaw of FL.
Deceased are an infant daughter, Elizabeth Barnish; and eight brothers and sisters, Irene Shaw, Wilbur (Lanky) Shaw, Marie Grimm Havanis, Becky Leighty, Edith Workman, Bill (Junior) Shaw, Hazel Kronk, and Charles Shaw.
Friends will be received from 6-8 pm, Saturday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm, Sunday in the Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor where services will be held at 11am, Monday, Oct 13, 2008 with Rev. William Bradford Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Jefferson Road, Waynesburg.
