Ellen R. Bachman, 94 of Paxton, formerly of Loda, died at 7:58 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, following an auto accident.
Mrs. Bachman was born May 9, 1914, at Worthington, Minnesota, the daughter of William R. and Pearl M. Sliver Shattuck. She married Lloyd V. Bachman on January 27, 1932, at Howard, South Dakota. He died January 13, 1990.
She is survived by one son and four daughters, Jim (Joyce) Bachman of Sun City, Arizona, Berniel (Ron) Stinebring of Urbana, Phyllis Sandwell of Savoy, Pearl (Keith) Smith of Rock Island and Connie Mellmann of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, five brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Bachman attended country school in Argonne, South Dakota and graduated from high school in 1932 in Howard, South Dakota. She was employed at one time at the Paxton Hospital for 15 years. She and her husband moved to Roanoke in 1932, to Loda in 1939 and to Paxton in 1980.
She was a member of the Loda United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Quilters Club of the United Methodist Church in Paxton and a longtime member of the Be Friendly Club of Loda.
She enjoyed crafts, sewing, flowers and gardening.
