Marilyn E. Sharp Battle Creek Marilyn E. Sharp, 88, a lifelong Battle Creek area resident, died at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility on Thursday, March 31, 2011. She was born in Battle Creek, MI on January 6, 1923, to Lyman and Jennie (Haradine) Parmele. She was a 1940 graduate of Bellevue High School. After high school she began working at the Sears Department Store on W. Michigan Ave. in downtown Battle Creek. In 1983, Marilyn retired from the offices at Sears, after working at all three locations, downtown, Capital Avenue S.W. and at the Mall. Marilyn Parmele was united in marriage to Robert H. Sharp at the First Presbyterian Church on June 6, 1948. She was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 51 years on September 19, 1999. Surviving are her son, Neil (Diane) Sharp of Battle Creek, two daughters, Nancy (Pat) Dailey of Ladysmith, WI and Julie (Todd) Denton of Baton Rouge, LA; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Sharp, Bradley (Rochelle) Sharp, Kristin (Ben Downey) Sharp, Andrew (Amy) Dailey, Jack Dailey, Katie (Leon) Cannizzaro, Kelly Denton and Kristi Denton; one great-granddaughter, Caroline Dailey; and two nephews, one niece and their families. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Maxine E. Quartermaine on August 11, 2008. Marilyn was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Church Elder, had taught Sunday School, was a member of the Lake Michigan Presbyterian Women, active in the XYZs and a volunteer for any church activity. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a longtime Red Cross Volunteer, a member of the B.C. Hospital System Auxiliary and a member of the S.W. Rehabilitation Center Foundation Board. Marilyn was an extraordinary woman, always showing others great concern and compassion. Her encouraging positive attitude and warm smile brought joy and inspiration to everyone around her. Marilyn enjoyed quilting with a group of ladies and she loved spending time with her family, traveling and camping. Marilyn's family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Memorial services for Marilyn will be officiated by Dr. Jeffrey S. Carlson and Rev. Patricia Weatherwax at the First Presbyterian Church 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011. Marilyn's cremated remains will be placed next to her husband, Bob at Memorial Park Cemetery.
