With great sadness our family wishes to announce the passing of
Erma G. Fish
Mother passed on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at 91 years of age.
Born in Greenville, Pa., to Elroy and Nora (Mowry) Shannon on Sept. 28, 1919. Her family moved to Jamestown, when she was 12 years of age, where she spent the rest of her life.
Erma graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938. She married the love of her life, John E. Fish Jr. in March 1942, and had three children: Jim, John and Judy.
Erma was respectfully a wonderful homemaker caring for her family on the Hunt Road. She also volunteered her time to many organizations which she received the U.S. Presidential Volunteer Award in 2008.
During the Vietnam War, she would travel to Buffalo Veterans Hospital (1966 to 1968) where she helped care for our wounded soldiers. She spent 10 years as a Red Cross Blood Bank volunteer, 30 years on S.W.C.S. Chautauqua County Election Board, and R.S.V.P. Volunteer from 1998 until she was 88 years of age. She also was a center point for Hunt Road for yearly Cancer collection drives. Her personal interests were sewing, knitting, canning, and she had a great love of animals.
She is survived by her brother, James L. Shannon and his wife, Barbara of Houston, Texas; her son, James L. Fish and wife, Carolyn (Benson) Fish of Celoron N.Y., daughter, Judith A. (Fish) Marshall and husband, Paul Marshall of South Carolina. Erma was blessed to have six grandchildren: Rebecca E. (Fish) Fox, Jennifer J. Fish, John E. Fish IV, Darbie N. (Marshall) Pickard, Bryan P. Marshall and Jaime C. (Fish) Wieczorek; and eight great-grandchildren; with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Her life was preceded by the death of her son, John E. Fish III in 2009; her granddaughter, Jennifer J. Fish in 1988; and husband John E. Fish Jr. in 1985, whom we all miss.
Erma was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lakewood since its inception.
