MILTON -- Doris L. (Shannon) Lane, 77, a 48-year resident of Milton, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham, after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Lane.

Born in Upper Darby, Pa., she was raised in Milton and graduated from Notre Dame Academy and Regis College, Class of 1950. She taught first grade in the Boston public schools for a few years before marring and moving to Irvington, N.J. Mr. and Mrs. Lane moved to Dorchester and then returned to Milton in 1958.

Active in her children's schools -- B.C. High and Fontbonne Academy -- she wrote a column for the Milton Record Transcript for many years, "Around the Town." She was a former member of the Neighborhood Club of Quincy.

She leaves her children and their spouses, Joseph J. and Diane M. Lane of Milton, Diane L. and Dr. David Chow of McLean, Va., Peter F. and Karen Lane of Beverly, and Edward M. and Linda Lane of Hopkinton; 10 grandchildren; her sister, Claire Martin and her husband, Tom, of Milton; and her brothers-in-law and sister-in law, Mary White, John Lane and Gerry Lane.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 20, at 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Church, Milton.

Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.

Visiting hours are today, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., Milton.
