When Mary was a young lady she moved from Virginia to Winterset, Iowa, where she was married to Michael McQuinney May, 21, 1879. With her husband, who was a woolen mill operator, she came to Blue Rapids in 1884, since which time this had been her home. In 1888 she became a charter member of Robert Hale Woman's Relief Corps and was a member in good standing until her death. She was also for many years a member of the Congregational church.
Mary received a stroke of paralysis resulting in her death.
