He was an US Army pilot who died in an airplane crash near Tacoma, WA at age 31. He was recovered from the scene of the mountain crash and buried 7 months later. He was enroute to McCord AFB from Ellensburg, WA when the accident happened. Veteran of 9 years. 1950 graduate of American UN in Washington, DC. Survivors include wife Priscilla and 5 children all of Springfield, Ca; parents Col and Mrs Wade L. Shankle of Dexter, Mo; and sister Mrs Edward C. Shultz of Kirkwod, Mo.
The plane crash was approximately 14 miles North of Stehekin, Washington, which is located at the head of Lake Chelan.
