Ruth Shank passed away in her sleep at Westbridge Care and Rehab. in Winterset on Monday, October 8, 2012.
Ruth was born in Atlantic, Iowa on December 30, 1917 to Alfred and Ida Nelson. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1936. She met and married Bert Shank on March 18, 1938 at a Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Ruth worked as a senior inspector at Delavan Mfg.Co. in West Des Moines for 24 years before retiring.
Family will greet friends at a visitation to be held Friday, October 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines. On Monday October 15, 2012 services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 1120 North 8th Ave. in Winterset starting at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will follow shortly thereafter at Highland Memory Gardens (1 NE 60th Ave. Des Moines).
Ruth is survived by her children, Clayton Shank of West Linn, OR, and Merle Shank of Rock Springs, TX; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Ballard of Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, and two sisters, Loraine Smith of Truro, IA and Beryle Woodward of Upland, CA.
