SARAH GERTRUDE STERBCOW SHAFER, 96, died April 30th, 2004.
She was born on September 25, 1908 to the late Peter and late Hannah Sterbcow.
She was preceded in death by husband Philip, prisoner of war in Germany for 26 months. She was also preceded in death by daughter,
Esther Porter, sisters; Clara Roder, Fannie Schwartz, Edith Hyman, brothers; Dr. Marx Lewis, and Sol Sterbcow.
She attended Joseph Kohn High School.
During WWII, she worked in the shipping dept. at the Port of Embarkation in New Orleans, La.
She was happily married for 34 years.
She belonged to Hadassah and had been a member of both Congregation Beth Yeshurun and Temple Emanuel. She donated money to Texas Children's Hospital in honor of her only child, Esther Hannah Shafer. Sarah will be recognized as an Abercrombie Society member.
Survivors include: one sister Beulah Title of New Orleans, LA, Esther Pearl Danziger, niece, Sheryl Clennan, devoted friend, numerous nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law.
Graveside services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Sunday May 2nd at Adeth Israel Cemetery (4700 Airline).
