Rene Blakeney, age 94, formerly of Kermit , passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015, in Atlanta, GA. She was born in Gause, TX, on January 1, 1921, to John Frank and Zola May (Watson) Shafer. She married the love of her life, C.L. "Blake" Blakeney, on April 16, 1960, in Kermit, TX. Together they owned and operated Blake’s Sporting Goods for many years. She was an active member of the community and a member of the Eastside Church of Christ.
She was a independent, compassionate, beautiful woman with a contagious smile, heart of gold and a sharp sense of style and humor. She was an excellent cook, renowned for her chicken and dumplings and pecan pie. She was truly an amazing woman who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to carry on her legacy include her son: Leon Blakeney of St. Paul, MN; grandsons: Drew Blakeney of Atlanta, GA, O'Brian Blakeney and wife Pattie of Big Spring, TX, and Lee Blakeney and wife Karen of Atlanta, GA, Michael Blakeney of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Lynn Blakeney Rogers and husband Cole of Midland, TX, Tyler Blakeney of Oakland, CA, and Matthew Blakeney of Big Spring, TX; and great-great-grandchild, Charli Rogers of Midland, TX.
She is preceded in death by her husband, C.L. "Blake” Blakeney, her parents: John and Zola Shafer and 10 siblings.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Eastside Church of Christ in Kermit, TX, with Brother Roy Christopher officiating. Interment will follow at the Kermit Cemetery.
