Barber, Ruby Jean - Peacefully, at Algoma Manor, Thessalon on Sunday June 7, 2015. Ruby Jean Shackleton was born July 30, 1912 at Portlock, the only daughter of Jonathan Shackleton and Ruby Suddaby. Her mother died shortly afterwards, so Jean was raised by her Grandparents, Tom & Elizabeth Suddaby. Her father eventually remarried and Jean ended up with 9 younger (half) siblings. Jean married Myles Barber of Gordon Lake on December 25, 1933 and settled into a house at Portlock where she bore three children before her husband went out west and eventually died in 1946. Dear mother of Glenn Barber (Gail), Norma Smith (late Harold) and the late Grant Barber (Reta). Grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 24 and great-great-grandmother of 26. Special Grandma to Ila Beilhartz. Dear sister of Margaret Barr (late Worden), Allan Shackleton (late Joan) and the late Jim Shackleton (late Mildred), Irene Gjos (late Richard), Anna Beilhartz (late Hugh), late Cora Connell (late Lorne), Ernie Shackleton, Elsie Clark (late Reg) and Ruth Shaule (late Bill) and step-sister of the late Stan Cameron (late Gladys). Also survived by many nephews and nieces. At Jean’s request of the family there will be no services at this time. Donations to the Blind River District Health Centre – Thessalon Site, Algoma Manor Charitable Foundation or charity of your choice gratefully accepted. Arrangements entrusted to Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon, Ontario.
