Hoyte Sessions Gilstrap was born in Crosbyton TX on July 17, 1913 to Tom and Belle Sessions. She would love to have been known as a pioneer - her family traveled with all their belongings in a covered wagon to Alto NM when Hoyte was 4 years old and lived on farming claims in NM until Hoyte was 12 years old. In 1925, the family moved to Baylor County TX and Hoyte lived there the rest of her life. She was a school teacher for about 3 years, then married Paul Gilstrap on December 23, 1935 at Seymour TX. She and Paul had 3 children: Vance, Terry and Maxie. She loved the Bible and studied it every day of her life, seeking to teach others of Jesus and to serve Him as He would want. She was a gifted writer, and wrote many lengthy essays about Christian Life, growing up as a pioneer, being a farmer's wife, and raising children. She was published in the Progressive Farmer Magazine, The Wichita Falls Times and Record News, The Clarendon Press, and also published a collection of her newspaper articles. She was a Godly woman who gave her life to integrity and righteousness.
