Services for David Hugh Sessions, 78, of Lufkin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Falvey United Methodist Church with Rev. David Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells, TX.
Mr. Sessions was the son of the late Jessie Oleta (Phipps) and Hugh Sessions. David was born at home and raised on the family farm. As a high school student, he delivered milk every morning before school from Wells to Nacogdoches, Lufkin or Rusk. As a young man he went to work for the Texas Highway Department in Houston as an electrician, and then he moved the family to Splendora where they spent many wonderful years. They built their own family house with most of the work being done by himself, his wife and two daughters. He went to work for Central Freight Lines where he drove a truck for 37 years before retiring. During this time, he was awarded for "32 consecutive years of driving without even a broken taillight.' He loved a good party, but he never drank alcohol in his life. Mr. Sessions was a long-time member at Falvey United Methodist Church in Wells. He was first and foremost a family man and was so proud of his daughters, both of whom graduated from college and became teachers. He loved having parties with his family where all of the ages came together. They would have crazy themes and dress up accordingly. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, family get-togethers and dancing. David and Rose Mary loved to dance together and many times cleared the dance floor to be rewarded with applause at the end. The birth of each of his grandbabies was a very special time and he was the first to give every child a taste of candy (peppermint).
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Amanda (Sessions) Oldham and Glenn of Nacogdoches; daughter and daughter-in-law, Belinda Sessions and Tiffani Bolin of Anchorage, AK; three grandchildren, Randy Ray Coe and Marcela of Nacogdoches, Tracy Allen Coe and Lauren of McKinney, and Ashley Elaine Chandler and Jackie of Nacogdoches; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Addison, Annie and Abigail Coe, Calvin Hugh Chandler and one other on the way; brother, Gale Sessions and Carolyn of Lake Cherokee; sister, Sue Smith and Leroy of Wells; numerous nieces, nephews and a huge extended family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Rose Mary (Higgins) Sessions; one great-grandbaby; three brothers, Bill, Larry, and Cliff Sessions; and sister, Mary Catherine Oldham.
