PVT Serrell

Pvt. William J. Serrell .Jr., husband of Mrs. Lydia M. Serrell, 109
Jackson avenue, was killed in France Aug. 18, about three weeks after going into action, according to a telegram from the war department.
A native and lifelong resident of this city,. Private Serrell was employed by the General Electric Co. before entering service Feb. 1, 1944. He received training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., where he was an expert rifleman.
Following a furlough here in June, Private Serrell was stationed in Maryland before going overseas.
He arrived in England in August, and later wrote that he was in France. He was a member of the infantry.
In addition to his wife, Private Serrell is survived by one son, William Joseph; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Serrell of 914 Francis avenue; three sisters, Mrs. Guy Smith, Mrs. Gordon Bailey and Miss Audrey Serrell and one brother, Lawrence Serrell, all of this city.
