Frank Serra Sr., 82, of Middlesex, died at home May 30, 2009. He was born in Hazelton, Pa. & had been a lifelong resident of Middlesex. His wife Dolores to whom he was married 59 years, died also this month on May 13, 2009. He was also predeceased by 2 brothers, Joseph Petrill & John Serra. As part owner of Brinkerhoff & Serra, Frank was a builder-land developer for many years before retiring several years ago. He also was a veteran of WWII serving in the 79th Infantry of the US Army. He was awarded the following medals & citations while in the following countries; the US-Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, French Fourraguere with Germany Clasp. While in France-Croix de Guerre 1939-1945, Palme, Croix du Combatant Volontaire 1939-1945, Croix du Combatant, Medaille Commenerative ders Services Volontaire dans la France Libre, Silver Plated Bronze with Free French Forces June 18, 1940-May 8 1945 liaison, Medaille Commemorative Francais 1939-1945, Clasp France, Clasp Liberation, Clasp Germany, The English Channel, Colmar Enameled Pin, Clasp Guerre. In Belgium, Commemorative Service Medal for WWII, Medaille de la Reconnaissance, Medaille du Volontaire, & in Yugoslavia he was awarded the Royal Yugoslavia Commemorative War Cross. Frank was also a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church in Middlesex, a member of the Middlesex American Legion, the VFW in Middlesex a Charter member of the Middlesex Elks & the Middlesex Seniors.
Surviving is 1 daughter, Angela M. Billard & her husband Robert of Green Brook; 4 sons, Frank Jr. & his wife Susan of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Ralph & his wife Geralyn of Middlesex, John & his wife Kathleen of Lavalette, Peter & his wife Laura of Easton, Pa.; 2 sisters, Grace Cundro of Hazelton, Pa., & Mary Theresa Dubbato also of Hazelton; 10 grandchildren, Jocelyn & her husband John Gayeski, Robert, Frank III, Alexandra, Nicholas, Ralph Jr., Gabrielle, Ginamarie, Peter Jr., Nicole; & 1 great grandchild, Emery.
There will be a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wed. at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church, Middlesex. Cremation will be private.
