Leona S. (Senft) Ernst, 87, passed away on June 13, 2015, at York Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph E. Ernst, who passed away in 1996.

Leona was born in Porters Sideling on July 11, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Hamilton S. and Mabel (Becker) Senft.

She worked at P.H. Glatfelter as a paper counter then as a cafeteria cook for the Spring Grove Area School District for over 25 years and retired in 1989. She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, Windy Hill Senior Center and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Porters Fire Company.

She is survived by her daughter, Jolene A. Ernst of York; several adopted daughters; her sister, Helen Klinedinst; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ervin Senft, Raymond Senft and Guy Senft; and her sisters, Jennie Stambaugh, Romaine Haar, Edna Kemper and Florence Keeney. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. David Danneberger officiating.

She will be laid to rest following the service next to her husband at St. Peter Lischey's Cemetery in Spring Grove. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at Bethel U.C.C., P.O. Box 3351, Spring Grove PA 17362; or Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg PA 17110.
