Charles was a 1947 graduate of Sadler High School. He was a farmer of sheep and other animals for many years. He was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau and was a former Sadler city council member and Mayor Pro-Tem. He was also a former member of the Sadler Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in securing the first truck for the department. In July 1990, he retired from Kraft Foods where he had worked for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the Sadler United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader, Sunday School teacher, and was on various committees. He married Lois Ann Rodgers on April 5, 1947 and they had four sons.
