Also served as a Member of the Alabama State House of Representatives from 1951 to 1952, Candidate for United States Senator from Alabama in 1968, 1980, United States Ambassador to Fiji from 1974 to 1979, United States Ambassador to New Zealand from 1974 to 1979, United States Ambassador to Tonga from 1974 to 1979, and United States Ambassador to Western Samoa from 1974 to 1979.
