Captain Donald Eugene Selby, United States Navy Retired, 83, of Charlottesville, died early Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, at his home at the Colonnades.
He was born on September 12, 1925, in Camden, New Jersey, to Earl and Mildred Selby. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy; and by his sisters, Myrtle Weber and Thelma Miller.
He is survived by his second wife, Zola; by his sons, Field, Steve and Don, and their wives, Clara, Rhonda, and Barbie; and by his four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of Brown University and the University of Virginia School of Law. After beginning his legal career as an assistant city attorney in Alexandria and as an FBI agent, he returned to the Navy and retired from the JAG Corps following more than 30 years of service.
