Viola Selby Alton 1906-1996 Viola was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Eastonia High in 1925. Her nick name "Babe" who was also an active member of the Spanish club. She married Russell D. Smith September 1, 1928. According to the Salt Lake City Tribune.This was a grand wedding with two hundred guests for a sit down dinner in the garden of her parent's home at 656 Second East Street. She eventually married her ONLY REAL TRUE LOVE Edward Raymond Alton (Salty) on July 28, 1936. Viola, Edward and Russell remained close friends for many many years to follow. Viola and Salty had one child Michael Selby Alton born April 2, 1940. Viola, Salty and Michael moved to Pocatello, Idaho were they opened a bait and tackle store. Viola became a skilled feminine fly casting angler. She was known for her ability to pick off balloons with light fly rods, silk tapered lines and small flies…a trick which was no minor accomplishment and one which didn't boost the stock of those trout which lie in supposedly inaccessible places. Viola became the General Chairman of the Star of the East Club of Ruth Chapter No.3. O.E.S., a Masonic Organization in Pocatello, Idaho. They eventually returned to Salt Lake City where Viola began her career at Charles of the Ritz. She became their top cosmetic, beauty and fashion consultant, specializing in Makoff products. She traveled frequently to New York City for training on the latest and greatest beauty and fashion news. While in the store customers loved to watch her hand blend your very own face powder exclusively for you designed to do the most for your beauty and your fashion. The custom face powder was then provide to you loose in a powder box or pressed into a beautiful purse compact. Viola loved working at this fabulous department store were she eventually retired. Viola Selby Alton was well known for her kindness and classy beauty.
