Anna Sedlacek Belka was born in Vanbeck, Austria on September 15, 1861. She came to America in the year 1879, coming directly to Crete where she made her home with her uncle, Frank Bohac. On December 27, 1891 she was united in marriage to Mr. Adolph Belka at the home of her brother, Mr. Frank Sedlacek of Crete, Nebraska. To this union were born six children, Alice, Bert, Adolph Jr, John, and Harry. One child, Sylvia, having preceded her in death in 1902. They made their home on a farm 3 1/2 miles west of Crete for 20 years. In 1922 they moved to the farm near Pleasant Hill where she lived until the time of her demise.

In 1916 she became ill with diabetes from which she never recovered. She was loved by all who had the good fortune to become acquainted with her and never was she known to complain until a few hours before her death.

She passed away quietly on Monday, February 6 and was laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, February 9. Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her loss one brother, Frank Sedlacek of Crete, one sister, Mrs. Mary Michalie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and one grandchild besides a host of other relatives and friends.
