Prior she worked 10 years at the Lincoln Elementary School in food service and Memcor in production department for over 15 years. She graduated in 1968 from Huntington High School and attended Mt. Etna United Methodist Church.

Etna, six brothers – Herbert (Neysa) Searles of Lebanon, Glen (Wiladean) Searles of Huntington, Harold "Joe" (Peggy) Searles of Mt. Etna, Roger Searles of Banquo, Ray (Jane) Searles of Bluffton and Gene (Patricia) Searles of Mt. Etna; a sister-in-law - Kim Searles of Greenwood, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Carl Searles.
