Donald A. Scussel, 74, of Coventry, beloved husband of 51 years to Linda (Goldberg) Scussel, died suddenly on Thursday March 29 at home.
He was born June 17, 1937 in Stafford Springs, son of the late Aldo Scussel and Sylvia (LaMere) Bishop. He attended Stafford High School and was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. After a successful career in Life Insurance, Don, with Linda, established Paperback Trader book stores in New Haven and Groton.
Upon moving to Coventry, Don changed career paths and went into property management. He was active in Coventry town affairs and had served on the Town Council, the Board of Education, the Economic Development Commission and the South Coventry Water Co.
Besides his wife, Linda, he is survived by his grieving children Julie (Erik) Ingenohl of Coventry and Laurie Scussel (Djambou Garibachvili) of Orlando, FL; and his cherished grandchildren Emma, Jake, David and Ana. He also leaves his brother Jon Scussel and his partner Judie Baker; as well as sisters- and brothers-in-law Sherna and Eugene Schloss and Dr. Alan and Diane Cross, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for a memorial service celebrating Don's life at Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Turnpike (Route 44), Coventry, CT 06238 on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. with a funeral home service at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Nathan Hale Cemetery.
