Birth: Jun. 8, 1830
Georgia, USA
Death: Dec. 13, 1901
Polk County
Texas, USA

Eliza was born in Georgia on 8 Jun 1830. "Mit" as she was called by her family, was married twice - both times unhappily. She married 1) Holman Freeman on 1 Dec 1846 in Macon County, Alabama. The marriage ended in divorce on 26 Jan 1856 in Alabama. Holman was born about 1818 in Georgia, and was a descendant of General Holman Freeman, a Revolutionary War Officer. She married 2) Joseph Frank Bonner on 14 Aug 1856 in Macon County, Alabama. Following their marriage, Frank worked as an overseer in Montgomery County. Eliza's family was not happy with the marriage.
Frank was not present in the 1860 Census in Polk County. In 1866 Frank eloped with Sophronia Mangrum, the third wife of Augustus Darby, and is never seen by his family again. Papers are later filed by Augustus Darby in 1867 and the affair between Gus's wife and Frank Bonner becomes a matter of public record. In January 1866, Eliza gives birth to her first son, Daniel Reuel Bonner. A few months after the birth of her fifth child, her mother, Lucena died. In the 1870 Census Reuel's name is mistakenly recorded as "Rachael".
Eliza is not found in a census after 1870 - not in Moscow, as every page in the 1880 Census has been searched. However, Mattie Bonner Cook is married to Britton Albert Cook, and Ida could also be found. Her brother William Lafayette Scurlock is also in Moscow. Mary Lucena, Julia, and Daniel Reuel are also missing from the 1880 Census. It has been rumored that Eliza worked as a post mistress, but that has not been proven. Eliza died in 1901 in Moscow and was buried Holhausen Cemetery. It is a mystery as to what sort of life she had from 1870-1900. (written by Amanda Cook Gilbert g-g-granddaughter)
