Margaret Ellen Davis, 82, of Falls Church, Va., a retired business woman and musician, passed away on Sept. 14, 2010 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va. She courageously battled leukemia and heart disease. Mrs. Davis was born in Athens on Nov. 12, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Roland L. and Lela Waddell Scruggs.
Mrs. Davis later moved to Fort Worth where she met her late husband, G. Fred Davis, while both were attending Bible Baptist Seminary. Mrs. Davis was married to G. Fred Davis for 49 years until his death in May, 1997.
Mrs. Davis was credit manager for Lubrications Engineers, Inc. in Fort Worth during its first 10 years of business. She began composing music and arranging hymns for church choirs in the 1960s, publishing many through Crescendo Music and Word Music. In the 1970s, she formed her own business, Impact Music, publishing her own compositions, as well as those of others. During this time, she wrote and produced numerous pageants, plays and programs for church and college performances.
After the death of her husband in 1997, Mrs. Davis moved to Falls Church, Va. to be nearer to her only child. Mrs. Davis became a member of Columbia Baptist Church where she taught a lady's Bible class for several years.
Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Davis Berman and her husband, Richard Berman of McLean, Va.; a sister, Lila Carlton and her husband Max Carlton of Bedford; three grandsons, Ashley Huey III and wife Sara Huey of Garland, Russ Huey of Arlington, Va., and Seth Berman and wife Kate Berman of Fairfax, Va.; a step-granddaughter, Carolyn Berman Braun and her husband, Conrad Braun of Naples, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Huey of Garland; and many other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Davis will be private per her family's request. Interment to be at Shannon Rose Hill Burial Park in Fort Worth at a future, undisclosed date.
