SOUTH BEND - Charlotte J. "Jo" Baker, 79, of South Bend, IN, died
Monday, December 1, 2008, at 11:05 p.m. in her home surrounded by
her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born
September 15, 1929, in Boswell, IN, to the late Kenneth and Lena
(Foster) Scott. On May 23, 1948, in Lafayette, IN, she married Robert
M. Baker, her loving husband of 60 years. He survives along with her
four daughters, Judi (Dave) Hutchinson of Three Mile Bay, NY, Jacie
Baker of Granger, IN, Becki Clauser of Mishawaka, IN, and Barbie (Jeff) Reynolds of
Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Bob and Dan Horvath, Tracie (Rick) Stewart, Gary
Linn (Heather) Vargo, Philip and Kindra Clauser, Justin and Tyler Reynolds; great-
grandchildren, Zoe, Xavier and Joel Remmo, R.J., Will and Jack Stewart, Cade Vargo,
and Amber Clauser; a sister, Connie Matthews of South Bend; and two brothers, Rich
(Meg) Scott of Indianapolis, IN, and Dan (Pam) Scott of Lafayette, IN. Jo graduated
from Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette in 1947. She moved to South Bend
with her family in 1963. Her passion in life was her family and friends, her love of
travel with her husband, Bob, and their dog, Sophie. She was truly loved and
respected by all who knew her. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday,
Dec. 4th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5th, in the funeral home, with
Rev. Larry Whiteford officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park,
Granger. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be
made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South
