Edith E. Scott Hale, age 102, a resident of West Lafayette, Ind., for the past 13 years, formerly of Arizona, died at 2:46 a.m. on Thursday, March 15 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Ind.
Born April 7, 1909 in Madison County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Volney Ray and Clara Mabel Norton Scott.
She was a 1927 graduate of Middletown High School near Muncie, Ind., and a 1952 graduate of Fort Wayne Bible College, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Edith was a bookkeeper, teacher, and missionary, opening churches in Indiana and then in Aguila, Ariz., where a wing is dedicated in her name - The Edith E. Hale wing. She also opened churches in Wenden, Ariz., and Eherenburg, Ariz. She was a member of the former Colonial United Brethren Church in Anderson, Ind., the Federated Church in West Lafayette and the Rural Home Missionary Association in Morton, Ill. She enjoyed church, music, and working with flowers.
Surviving is a son, Thomas J. Hale of Lafayette, four grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Diane, a sister, and two brothers.
Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday (March 24) at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 N. 9th St., Lafayette, Ind. Service to follow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Gary Roseboom officiating.
Burial to follow at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, Ind.
