Mr. George Lee Scott, age 90, of Yulee, passed away on Thursday morning, May 30, 2013 at his home, with his family by his side.

Born in O'Neal, FL he was the oldest of twelve children born to the late Ernest and Corrine Anderson Scott. Being raised in East Nassau County, Mr. Scott was a graduate of Yulee High School, Class of 1942. After high school, he worked for a period of time with J.M. Oxley at Oxley Mortuary in Fernandina. Mr. Scott enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II as a Bombardier. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned home to O'Neal where he began working as a Shrimper. During his career as a Shrimper he owned a fleet of up to eight boats, the most notable being the "Naughty Lady". In 1970, he accepted employment at Container Corporation of America as a Mill Wright where he remained until retiring at the age of 77 in 2000.

Mr. Scott and his family have been longtime members of Blackrock Baptist Church in Yulee.

He leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Janice Higginbotham Scott, Yulee, FL, his children, Mitchell Scott (Margaret), Fernandina Beach, FL, Dennis Scott, St. Augustine, FL, Hadley Scott (Regina), Fernandina Beach, FL, a brother, Randy Scott (Christy), O'Neal, FL, two sisters, Nancy Trantham, Nassauville, FL, Joan Jones (Pete), Nassauville, FL, step children, Dwayne Jones, Yulee, FL, Janet Hillis (Dana), Naples, FL, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Blackrock Baptist Church with Reverend Frank Camarotti, officiating.

Mr. Scott will be laid to rest in Green Pine Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm on Sunday at the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
