Virginia "Jan" Bates was born April 6, 1924; passed away Nov. 10. 2014. She was a "Texan" having arrived at age 3. She grew up in Dallas and attended North Texas State University in Denton. She was a devoted Air Force pilot's wife and followed her husband to many different bases. They enjoyed traveling to places all over the world. She worked for different financial institutions over the years. She lived through the great depression and WWII. She was a part of the "greatest generation." She was generous and kind to family, friends and animals. Church was a big part of her life and she quietly supported different charities. She is survived by her daughter Marcia Bates Foster, her grandson Curtis Foster, his wife Erin, great granddaughter Holly, caregivers/ friends Bernice & Joy. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church 6800 Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78240. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 at TUMC and interment will follow at 1:30 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Tues., Nov. 18, 2014.
