CLARK RUTH ELIZABETH SCOTT
97, of Decatur, Alabama, formerly of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, in Decatur, Alabama. She was born February 5, 1912, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, to Prudence Alameda McKarney Scott and William Thornburg Scott. Mrs. Clark graduated from Grove City College in 1929 with a Bachelor of Music degree. She also studied art at Carnegie Mellon Graduate School. She taught Music, Art and English in Penn Hills High School, Penn Township, Pennsylvania from 1935 to 1938. She married James Adams Clark in 1938 . James, raised in East Liberty, and graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, was a 33rd degree Mason. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2003. Mrs. Clark was an active musician, composer, poet, artist, and teacher. She was a member of the National Association of American Pen Women. She was a professional pianist in several venues. Her works are published through her website, ruthscottclark.com. Survivors include three daughters: Roberta June Henebry of Ellensburg, WA; Rebecca Ruth Phillips of Somerset, NJ; and Rhonda Lea Hoffman of Madison, AL, with whom Ruth made her home; and four grandchildren: Lisa M. Price, Darla J. Price, James Clark Fulton and Robert E. Fulton; and six great-grandchildren. To Honor the lives of both Ruth and her husband James, family will receive friends at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME (Village of Leesburg), 1778 Perry Highway, Volant, PA, 16156, on Saturday, September 5, 2009, from 1:00p.m. until time of service at 3:00p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Gomola, pastor of the Leesburg Presbyterian Church, presiding. Interment will be held at Leesburg Cemetery beside her husband. (please see James Clark obituary in today's paper).
