Daughter of German immigrant produce farmers of modest means, Gottlieb F. Schwarz and Margaretha Blum Schwarz, Minnie, as she was known, grew up in the crossroads village of Georgetown, on Belair Road at Erdman Avenue, just outside the city at that time.
Minnie married prosperous florist and flower grower Frederick C. Bauer about 1892. They raised five children: William F. Bauer, Irvin O. Bauer, Harry F. Bauer, Margaret (Bauer) Sisson, and Thelma.
Although Minnie had stood as godmother for her brother John Christian Schwarz's daughter, who was named for her, in 1892, the families do not appear to have remained in touch.
