Death: Apr. 6, 1976

Emily was born in New York City to Bohemian immigrant parents who arrived in NYC in 1885. Her mother's name was Maria Handlier from Hlizov, Bohemia; her father was Vojtech Mexbauer from Picin, Bohemia. Three months after giving birth to Emily, her mother died from child birth complications.

Emily was raised by her father and half sister until the father died and then their aunt assumed responsibilities. Emily never got to know her mother and her father only a short time.

Surprisingly, today, Emily's third cousin, Miloslava (Mila) Jirankova Duchanova still lives on the same property which has been in the family at least 150 years and where Emily's mother was born.

Emily met her husband to be, Rudolph Svarc, after he emigrated to the U.S. (1902) and lived in NYC. Upon arrival to the U.S., Rudolph changed the spelling of his surname to
'Schwartz'. Rudolph migrated to San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake to help rebuild the city with his professional wood carving trade skills.. He returned to NYC, married Emily in 1910 and they moved to San Francisco where they remained until their respective deaths. One child was born of this union (Edith Helen).
