John & his wife Julia came to the US with 3 children (John Jr, Joseph, & August) aboard the SS Polaria. They entered the Port of New York (Ellis Island) on March 25, 1892. Their destination was Wisconsin.
They settled in Milwaukee for about 3 years: this is where August and another child, Martha died and were laid to rest. Burial records of these children cannot be found, however, according to their death certificates, they were buried in St Adalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee. After leaving Milwaukee John and Julia settled in the Township of Eau Pleine, Marathon County WI.
John & Julia were farmers and had 7 more sons and 2 daughters. To supplement his family income, John also worked at various saw mills in the area. The men would leave for a few days, cutting and then milling trees. It was on one of these trips that John died.
John died on December 28, 1906. His funeral mass took place on January 2, 1907 at the church of The Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cassel, WI; burial at St. Adalbert's cemetery in McMillan WI.
He was just 46 years old. He left behind his wife Julia, 9 sons (John, Joseph, Anton, Leo, Paul, Albert, Peter, Wenzel, and Steven), and 1 daughter (Anna). Julia was pregnant at the time of his death, and gave birth to another daughter (Rose) about 2 months later. Two children, August and Martha preceded John in death.
