Obituary: The funeral for Diane B. Eberhart will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church of Britton with Rev. Terry Sletto officiating. Burial will be in the Britton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Diane Beverly Schultz was born Jan. 26, 1950, in Milbank, S.D., to Marland and Beverly (Ammann) Schultz of Corona, S.D. She grew up on the family farm near Corona and attended elementary school at Garfield No. 5.
She graduated from Corona High School in 1968 and continued her education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, graduating from there in 1972 with a degree in education and a minor in art. Diane took a teaching position with the Wilmot School District in Wilmot, S.D., and taught there for the next four years.
On June 24, 1973, Diane married Lynn E. Eberhart in Wilmot. They made their home there and both taught at the local school until 1976. At that time they moved to the Britton area, where they were engaged in farming with Lynn's family.
Diane remained at home, raising their three daughters until returning to teaching in 1988. At that time, Diane became the teacher at the Sunset Colony School and taught primarily K-8 for the next 18 years until health issues made it necessary for Diane to retire.
Diane was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Britton where she had served with her husband, Lynn, as a youth leader and Sunday school teacher. She also was a part of the Presbyterian Women's Group. She belonged to a Marshall County Extension Club, and was active in a craft club and bunko group.
It seemed that Diane's interest in art continued throughout her lifetime. Her hands were always busy with some kind of embroidery or arts and craft project. She especially enjoyed stamping and making cards. Above everything else, Diane cherished and valued her family and the time they spent together.
In November 2001, Diane was diagnosed with cancer. She fought the disease with grace and dignity, and became an inspiration to many. Her willingness to try various therapies was a sign of her desire to beat the disease. Through all of her treatments and surgeries, Diane kept a positive attitude, never complained and was most grateful and overwhelmed by the support she received from the community.
Diane passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, nearly nine years to the day of her cancer diagnosis, at Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton. She was 60 years old.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 37 years, Lynn Eberhart, of Britton; three daughters: Amy (Cory) Davis of Milbank, S.D., Emily (Mike) Van Lith of Harrisburg, S.D., Tena (Luke) Kraft of Britton; three grandchildren: Ashlynn Kraft, Taryn Kraft and Kennady Van Lith; her parents, Marland and Beverly Schultz, of Corona, S.D.; a sister, Ruth Ann (Jerry) Settje, of Corona; a brother, Dale (Barb) Schultz, of Corona; and a dear friend and "adopted daughter," Jacque Ohleen.
Preceding her in death were her maternal and paternal grandparents; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alfred and Ivalue Eberhart.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
