Dr. Kenneth A. Shultz, 97, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Bowers) Shultz, his wife of 65 years. Born July 16, 1908, in York City, he was a son of the late Alvin E. and Cora E. (Quickel) Shultz. Dr. Shultz was a 1926 graduate of William Penn High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Temple University in 1930, his Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1936, and his Doctorate in Education from Temple University in 1961. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a member of the 154th Medical Unit in the United States Army. He was stationed in both Europe and the U.S., and earned the rank of First Lieutenant. Dr. Shultz was in charge of a prisoner of war camp located in Tullahoma, TN, which housed over 10,000 German and Austrian army and regular militia. He received the European-African Mid Eastern Service Medal and the American Service Medal. Dr. Shultz' life work was as an educator, spending the first part of his career (from 1930 to 1943) teaching in the Camden, NJ public school system. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he returned to his hometown of York, to become Director of Business Education at William Penn High School, where he retired in 1974 after 40 years of teaching. Dr. Shultz was honored by being selected "Pennsylvania's Outstanding Business Educator of the Year" in 1966, and was selected "Who's Who in North America" in 1976. He was a dedicated teacher who loved helping his students attain a quality education, and he helped to place many of those students in positions with local companies. Dr. Shultz was a member and past president of Phi Delta Kappa National Honorary Fraternity. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Business Education Association; New Jersey Business Education Association; Vocational And Practical Arts Association of Pennsylvania; York County Association of School Retirees; York Chapter 1246 AARP; York Chapter 67 Izaak Walton League; and was past president of the Pennsylvania State Division, Izaak Walton League of America. He served on the Board of the Conservation Society of York County and was curator of Indian Steps Museum for 31 years. He served as a National Director of the Izaak Walton League and was former chairman of the IWLA York Outdoor Show, held at the York Fairgrounds. The IWLA also honored him with the Hall of Fame Award and the Judge Tobin Award. He was also a member of the Historical Society of York County, Pleasant Acres Auxiliary, and Normandie Ridge Auxiliary. He enjoyed small game hunting, fishing, traveling, stamp collecting, volunteering, and singing. He also had been a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and served on many church boards and committees. He was a former member of Bethlehem EUB Church, and was currently a member of Bethany (York) United Methodist Church. Dr. Shultz was past president of the Bethany United Methodist men, was active in the church choir, and was a member of the Normandie Ridge Singers. He also volunteered to help in the library and spent many a Sunday afternoon helping transport residents and prepare and give communion at the York County Nursing Home. Dr. Shultz is survived by son Kendor Shultz and his wife, Pamela of York; two brothers, James Shultz and his wife, Dorothy, of College Park, MD and Donald Shultz and his wife, Jane of Irving, TX; sister Anna Hildebrand and her husband, Clarke of Willow Street; grandson, Steven Shultz and his wife, Deborah of York; granddaughter, Krista Daly and her husband, Thomas of Longmeadow, MA; step grandson, Christopher Robertson and his wife, Candy of Tallahassee, FL; two step granddaughters, Angela Zeigler and her husband, Casey of Glen Rock and Romi Broadwell of Dover; great-grandchild, Christiaan Shultz; step great-grandchildren, Ashley Knouse, Alexis Knouse, Hunter Betz, Dawson Chapman, Gage Zeigler, and Lula Robertson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church, York, Rev. Richard Bowers and Rev. Tina Ness officiating. Burial in Mt.
