Early Resident of County is Called Monday
Chas. Schultz, 82, Passes After Short Illness; Funeral Thursday
Chas. Schultz, one of the early settlers of Emmet county passed away at 8 a.m. Monday [December 11, 1933] at his home on East Pleasant street. Mr. Schultz who was 82 years old had been seriously ill for the past three weeks.
He is survived by five daughters, two sons and 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Schultz passed away Dec. 14, 1929.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the M.E. church with Rev. Ortmeyer in charge.
All of Mr. Schultz's children will be home for the funeral. They are Mrs. Frank Leupold, Superior; Mrs. Will Turner, Bell, Calif.; Mrs. August Peterson, Estherville; Mrs. Fred Grantham, Rock Branch; Mrs. Wallace Simpson, Wichita, Kansas; Frank Schultz, Lamoni, Calif.; and Walter Schultz, Estherville. Another of Emmet county's pioneers, Charles Schultz, 82, was buried today in the Oak Hill cemetery. He died Monday morning at his home on East Pleasant street after living for 50 years in Emmet county.
Charles Schultz was born in Germany Oct. 21, 1851. In 1873 he came to Joliet, Ill., and on Sept. 12, 1878, he was married to Miss Mary Severt also of Joliet. To this union eight children were born, the oldest son died in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Frank Leupold of Superior, Mrs. Will Turner of Bell, Calif., Mrs. G. A. Peterson of Estherville, Mrs. Fred Grantham of Rock Branch, Walter A. Schultz of Estherville, Frank Schultz of Pomona, Calif., and Mrs. W. B. Simpson of Wichita, Kan., and 10 grandchildren.
In 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Shultz moved to Emmet county, they purchased and improved their home farm five miles north of Estherville where they lived for 29 years. In 1913 they moved to Estherville where Mr. Schultz resided until his death. His wife preceded him in death four years ago on Dec. 14, 1929.
Funeral services were held today at 2:30 in the Methodist church. The Rev. W. A. Ortmeyer was in charge. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 14, 1933)
