Elizabeth J. "Betty" Harness, 98, of Cody, died Oct. 27, 2008, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
She was born April 19, 1910, in Hardin, Mont., the first child of John and Mary Schreuder. The family then moved to Worden, Mont., where she grew up and attended school.
Betty married Owen Harness in 1934 in Rawlins. They resided in Lance Creek, where her husband worked for Marathon Oil Co. In 1959 they transferred to Cody. Owen died in 1961.
Betty worked as a news correspondent for the Casper Star-Tribune and as a feature writer for several magazines, doing human interest and historical articles. After her writing career, Betty worked during the summer at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center for 15 years.
Her hobbies included painting, sewing and gardening.
She is survived by her sister Joanne Zent of Billings, brother John Schreuder of Billings, niece Judy Rhoads of Cody and various nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Everett Schreuder and Jake Schreuder, and sisters Anna Schreuder, Mary Brewer, Elsie Heidema and Frances Offt Johnston.
Graveside services will be at Riverside Cemetery.
