Rachel N. Schnabel age 90 of Apple Valley, formerly of Rosemount, passed away October 16, 2009.

Rachel was born on Feb 24, 1919 in Alpena South Dakota. She was united in marriage on October 9, 1935 to Gideon Schnabel in her parent's home in Alphena, South Dakota. They farmed near Montrose, South Dakota for some years and then farmed near Cleghorn and Marcus, Iowa. Rachel worked as a nurse's aide at the Marcus Nursing Home for approximately 8 years. They moved to LeMars in 1965 where Gideon worked for the school system and Rachel at the Brentwood Nursing Home for more than 15 years. For many years she enjoyed gardening and canning. In 1981 they retired and moved to Minnesota. They recently made their home in Apple Valley, MN, where Rachel went into Augustana Health Care Center. They just celebrated they 74th anniversary on September 9. She was grateful for having shared a long life with her husband, children and many grandchildren (27) great grandchildren (over 48) and 5 great great grand children. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

A heartfelt thank you for all the prayers for her and our family during this time. We rejoice in the knowledge that she now is without physical pain and is in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. A special thanks to the caring nurse staff at Augustana Health Care Center, and the pastoral care from Peace Church.

Rachel is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Schorzman son, Robert Lee Schnabel. Survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Gideon; children, Dorothy Sonksen, Ronald (Sandra), Darlene (Randall) Reuter, Loretta Ruhland and Sharon Schnabel; 28 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and 5 Great-great grandchildren. Funeral service 10:30am Monday, October 19 at Peace Church, 2180 Glory Drive Eagan, with visitation on Sunday from 4-7pm at the White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave, and 1 hour prior to service at church. Interment at Lebanon Cemetery, Apple Valley.
