Wilhemina "Minnie" (Schoenberg) Ellering
Born on September 5, 1895 on the Schoenberg family farm in Section 9 of Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minn. Wilhemina "Minnie" Schoenberg was the 7th of the nine children of Martin and Katherine (Gerads) Schoenberg.
Like all the chidren of Martin & Katherine Schoenberg, Minnie received her education at the District School #161 located 1 mile north of the Schoenberg farm in Section 5 of Spring Hill Township.
On January 22, 1918, when she was 22 years old, Minnie Schoenberg married Edward "Eddie" Ellering in Meire Grove, Minn. Eddie was born September 23, 1896 in Meire Grove, Minn to Bernard and Anna (Lois) Ellering.
Minnie's grandparents, J. Joseph & Anna Marie (Fritz) Schoenberg, moved their family from their Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin farm to Grove Township in western Stearns County in 1874. The Ellering family farm, where Eddie Ellering & his siblings were born, is located in section 21 of Grove Township in Stearns County. The Ellering farm is directly across the road from the original Schoenberg farm in section 22. Today, the Ellering farm is still operated by the Ellering family.
Eddie Ellering is a brother to Mary Ellering - the wife of Joseph Schoenberg. Joe Schoenberg and Minnie (Schoenberg) Ellering are also siblings.
Although a diffcult business, especially during the prohibition years 1920 - 1933, Eddie and Minnie Ellering were the owner / operator of bar in Greenwald, Minn called Ed's Place.
Eddie & Minnie Ellering had one child, Bernard A. Ellering, born February 5, 1929 - eleven years after they were married in 1918.
While sleeping at his home in Greenwald, Eddie Ellering died at 2pm on Wednesday, January 5, 1949. He was 52 years old. He is buried in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Greenwald, Minn.
After Eddie's death, Minnie continued to run the bar in Greenwald. Years later, after selling the business, she moved to Melrose. When her sister, Mary Braun, died in 1965, Minnie move in with her brother-in-law, Henry Braun, in Melrose to do the house work & cooking for him.
When Henry Braun went to the nursing home, Minnie moved to Rose View Manor - a senior apartment complex in Melrose - which was just 1 block from her sister, Apollonia (Schoenberg) Welle.
Minnie died at St. John's Hospital in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota on Monday, December 3, 1984. She was 89 years old and was buried on Thursday, December 6, 1984 next to her husband, Eddie, in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Greenwald, Minn.
Minnie was survived by her son, Bernard Ellering and his wife Ann; and 6 grandchildren: Susan, Kathy, Pam, David, Michael & Karen Ellering; one sister, Katie (Schoenberg) Athmann - Caspers.
Minnie Ellering was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Ellering, in 1949, her parents Martin (1923) and Katherine Schoenberg (1936), four brothers Charles "Carl", Wilhelm "Willie", Joseph and Henry Schoenberg and three sisters, Anna (Joe) Welle, Apollonia (Anton) Welle, Mary (Henry) Braun, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
