Frances M. Ackerman, 92, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, December 31, 2010, at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 4 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.
Surviving is her daughter, Kathy (Jim) Bocken of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Peterson of Van Meter. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Wilhelmina (Alliger) Schoeberlein; her husband, James Ackerman; a son, James Jr.; a sister, Betty and a brother, Donald.
Frances Schoeberlein was born May 20, 1918 in Rinard, Iowa. She graduated from Farnhamville High School in 1936. Frances then continued her education at the Tobin Business College. After graduation, she was united in marriage on June 30, 1939 to James W. Ackerman. Frances assisted her husband in their family business, including Ackerman Roofing Co. In 1963, they purchased the unfinished Starlite Motel and in 1965, they built the Starlite Village Restaurant. They sold Ackerman Roofing Co. in 1967 and established Ackerman Investment Co. They continued in the motel and restaurant business in various locations around Iowa.
Frances and James would spend their winter months in Barefoot Bay, FL. James passed away in March 1999. Frances continued her involvement in the family business with her daughter and son-in-law. She also continued to spend her winters in Barefoot Bay.
Frances was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star.
