Injuries Prove Fatal
* Another lengthy story concerning the circumstances around the death and the inquest following the death of Louis Schmidt.
Article stated he was about 35 years old.
****
The Grand Island Democrat Friday 17 August 1906, p. 5

Louis Schmidt, a cigar maker employed at the Weirick Cigar Co., fell down the stairs over the Hart gun co. Monday night of last week and was so severely injured that he died later. It was first thought that he had been the victim of foul play, but at the coroner's inquest which was held Friday, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death. Schmidt had spent the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ellington, Lizzie Kane and Fred Yenckel, who have rooms above the Hart Gun Co. and had been drinking quite freely. When Schmidt started home it is supposed that he fell down the stairs.

Card of Thanks

I wish to thank all those who so kindly assisted me during the sickness, death and burial of my brother Louis Schmidt.

Gratefully, Albert Kowarsch (Schmidt).

Same issue: Albert Kowarsch who has a card of thanks in this issue writes his name in the old country style - Kowarsch - while his brother took the German name of Schmidt, the meaning of the names being identical. Hence the manner of the signature to the card of thanks.
