GOESSEL -- Selma Duerksen, 85, homemaker and cook, died Saturday (Nov. 30, 2002) at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
She was born Dec. 5, 1916, to Jacob H. and Helena (Nickel) Schmidt in Marion County. She married Paul Duerksen March 21, 1947, in Goessel. He preceded her in death Sept. 16, 1978.
After her marriage she lived on a farm in rural Hillsboro. After her husband's death she moved to Goessel in late 1978. She cooked for many years at the Senior Center in Goessel. She was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel.
Survivors include a brother, Elmer Schmidt of Goessel.
Funeral service was Wednesday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel with the Revs. James Dunn and Mark Wiens officiating.
Burial was in Alexanderwohl Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Bethesda Home in Goessel in care of the funeral home, 303 E. Main, Goessel, KS 67053.
