Minnie Becker, daughter of John and Caroline Schmidt, was born November 24, 1907, in McPherson county, Kansas, and passed away December 5, 1950, in the Bethel Deaconess hospital, Newton, Kansas. She reached the age of 43 years and eleven days.
In her early years she lived with her parents near Montezuma, Kansas. At the age of fifteen, she felt the need of a Saviour and upon remission of sins and confession of faith was baptized on January 18, 1923, by Elder F. C. Fricke and added to the Church of God in Christ Mennonite.
On June 7, 1931, she was joined in marriage to Minister Paul Becker, with whom she shared joys and sorrows for 19 years. This union was blessed with three sons and four daughters. They made their home near Halstead, Kansas, with the exception of two years in Colorado.
On March 23, 1944, her husband was ordained to the ministry and she served as a faithful minister's wife for nearly seven years, ever having at heart the welfare of the Kingdom and the salvation of souls.
She was a faithful wife and mother, loving her home very much, doing all in her strength for the welfare and happiness of her loved ones. She enjoyed good health until about a year ago when she had an operation from which she recovered fairly well, in so much that she attended church services and helped with the work in her home. A few months ago, her health again began to fail so that on December 1 she was taken to the hospital and on Dec. 5 at 9:30, she was relieved of all suffering and peacefully fell asleep.
She leaves to mourn her early departure, her deeply bereaved husband, Paul Becker, three sons, Allen, Melvin and Dean, and four daughters, Irene, Rosalee, Norma and Stella, all of the home; two sisters and three brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
The Grace Mennonite church greatly feels its loss in the passing of our sister. Yet, in solemn submission, we bow to the will of Him who does all things well.
Memorial services for Mrs. Becker were conducted on Sunday afternoon, December 10, 1950, at 2:00 o'clock from the Grace Mennonite Church near Halstead. Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Harry Wenger of Hesston were the officiating ministers. Other ministers participating in the services were Rev. Frank Wenger of Hesston, Rev. John Dirks of Galva, and Rev. P. G. Hiebert of Hillsboro. The church choir sang favorite hymns in the home for the service which preceded the church services, and in the church and at the graveside.
Casket bearers were Jesse Koehn, Herman Koehn, Clifford Fast, Leo Buller, Leo Koehn and J. C. Unruh. Her body was committed to its final resting place in the family lot in the Halstead Cemetery.
