CHAPMAN — Georgena Emma Frauen, 86, of Chapman died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, with Pastor Craig Neimeier officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Frauen was born Aug. 7, 1928, to Arthur and Meta (Peters) Schmidt in Howard County near St. Libory. She grew up near St. Libory. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Church in Worms. She completed her grade school at Zion’s Parochial School in 1942. She attended Chapman and Central City High Schools, graduating in 1947. In August of 1947, she moved to Omaha and attended Electronics Radio Television Institute and graduated from ERTI on October 30th with certificates for stenography/secretary, filing and meteorology. She was also a member of the First Lutheran Church and Walther League while in Omaha.

Georgena was employed part time at ERTI and Tony’s Donut Shop. In November of 1947, she began employment at Eppley Hotels Company in Omaha. She worked as an assistant in the purchasing department and was also stenographer/secretary and file clerk. In May of 1951, she started civil service at Offut Air Force Base until April of 1955.

On April 17, 1955, Georgena married Otto P. Frauen at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worms. They resided on the farm where Otto was born and raised.

Georgena was a member of the Dorcas Ladies Aid at Zion, Grand Island Zone Lutheran Women Missionary League and held many offices such as historian for the Zion Church and the Ladies Aid for over 27 years. She edited a book for the 125th Anniversary of Zion in 1999. She was also in the Zion Choir for 16 years and was a Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Frauen was a 4-H Leader for 11 years. She was a member of the Platt Duetsche Auxiliary. Georgena and Otto were members of the Saddle Club in Grand Island. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers to share. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and working with family histories. She loved dancing waltzes and playing cards.

Otto and Georgena enjoyed family gatherings, their many travels, including driving to and from Alaska in 1983 for 43 days. They spent some retirement years fishing, camping, and attending Antique Tractor Expositions in the Midwest.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lori Parachini of Chapman, Linda and Brad Peters of Wood River and Lana and Charlie Schindler of Longview, Texas; two stepgrandsons, Adam Schindler of Galveston, Texas, and Thomas Schindler (fiance Jennifer Jackson) of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews, Steven (Carol) Schmidt, Scott (Colleen) Schmidt, Sherri (Randy) Esterling, and Gary Schmidt; several great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law; Barbara Guzinski; and aunt, Edna Kuck.

Georgena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto; two brothers, Berdean Schmidt and Norman Schmidt; a nephew, David Schmidt; a son-in-law, Joe Parachini; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donna Schmidt, Max and Elsie Frauen, Herman and Esther Frauen, Vern and Marie Nelson, Carl and Cecelia Warneke, Emil and Elsie Schutt, Catherine Frauen, Clarence and Louise Benson; and several nieces and nephews.
